Ancient Villages In China
China is a large country with many impressive and modern cities. In this post we will fly away from those cities, lead you to the country’s famous ancient villages and towns. Some of these places event have a history of over 2,000 years. They are worthwhile to exploration.
Shigu Town
Shigu Town (Stone Drum 石鼓镇) is a town situated 70 kilometres from Lijiang County. It is where the Yangtze River turns 180 degree from south to north, forming an unusual river bay in a “U” shape.
Zhaoxing Village
Guizhou province has many covered bridges, called Wind and Rain Bridges. These were built by the Dong minority people. The southeastern corner of the province is known for its unique Dong minority culture. Towns such as Rongjiang, Liping, Diping and Zhaoxing are scattered amongst the hills along the border with Guangxi.
Chengyang
Chengyang (程阳) is a district consisting of eight villages, located 4-5 hours from Guilin, in the Guangxi province of China. Entering whichever of the villages, you will enjoy the unique surrounding sceneries. Chengyang Wind and Rain covered bridge which is protected as a valued cultural relic of Dong people.
Fenghuang Ancient Town
Fenghuang Ancient Town (凤凰) is located in Hunan Province, China. It is an exceptionally well-preserved ancient town. It is located in a natural mountain setting, incorprating the natural flow of water into city layout.
Hongcun
Hongcun (宏村) is a village in Yixian county, Anhui province, located near the southwest slope of Mount Huangshan, in China. The village is arranged in the shape of an ox, a nearby hill is the head, and two trees standing on it mark the horns. Four bridges across the Jiyin stream represent the legs and the houses of the village are the body.
Xidi
Xidi (西递) is a village in southern Anhui province (Yixian County), in China. Xidi was declared as World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000, together with Hongcun Village. Xidi Village has more than 300 graceful Ming and Qing dynasty residences, many of them are well preserved.
Zhouzhuang
Zhouzhuang (周庄) is a town in Jiangsu province, China. It is located in southeast of Suzhou. Zhouzhuang is popular for its water townships in China. Noted for its profound cultural background, the well preserved ancient residential houses, the elegant watery views and the strong local colored traditions and customs. It has been called the “Venice of the East”.
Wuzhen
Wuzhen (乌镇) is a scenic town located in northern Zhejiang Province, China. Its population is about 6,000 and its area is about 46.5 square kilometers. Wuzhen has its 2,000 history ancient stone bridges floating on mild water, stone pathways between the mottled walls and its delicate wood carvings.

Yunnan is a great province in China & Dali is one of the most popular City for travelers and is hugely popular with people working & studying in China.
I plan to have a visit & will make a post about these places/city in future, thanks for the suggestion.
