Cáceres [S] is a beautiful small city in the Extremadura [S] region of Spain that is worth spending several days visting. The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site [S].

The nearest major international airports to Cáceres [S] are: Madrid [M] Barajas, Seville [M] and Lisbon. Each is around 250-300km from Cáceres.
Domestic flights from Madrid [M] (Barajas) and Barcelona [M] (El Prat) serve Cáceres' nearest airport, situated at Talavera, in the province of Badajoz [S], around 90km from Cáceres [S]. Talavera airport does not currently handle any international flights.

Cáceres [S] Railway Station is located on the outskirts of the city, around 1-2km from the city centre. Taxis are readily available, although it is an easy stroll along the Avenida de Alemania to the city centre.
Plans are in place to link Cáceres [S] to Madrid [M] by high speed train (AVE). This is likely to be a reality[link title] in the next five years.
From Madrid [M]: Follow the A5 autopista in direction Badajoz [S] / Portugal, leaving at Trujillo [S] onto the A-58 autopista. Until completion of the A-58, this will lead you directly onto the older road, the N-521, after a few kilometres. Follow this road directly into the centre of Cáceres [S].
From Salamanca [M] / the north: Take the A-66 southbound in direction Sevilla / Mérida [S] [M]. Leave the motorway at the north end (Ronda [M] Norte) and enter the city using the N-630, which will bring you direct into the city centre.
From Seville [M] / Mérida [S] [M] / the south: Take the A-66 northbound, leaving at the junction with the EX-100. Follow the signs on the N-630 to lead you directly into the city centre.
From Badajoz [S] / Portugal: Leave the A-5 motorway and follow the regional EX-100 road to the outskirts of Cáceres [S]. Follow the N-630 directly into the city.
From Madrid [M]: Buses leave Madrid several times each day from the Estación del Sur. The journey takes between three and a half to four and a half hours, depending on the service / time of day. Services usually take a 20 minute break in the town of Navalmoral de la Mata [S]. As of 18 July 2008, a single ticket costs 19,87€ (9,94€ for under 4s) and a return 36,15€ (17,89€ for under 4s) on normal services. On express services this rises to 23,75€ (11,90€) for singles and 43,40€ (21,40€) for returns.
From Seville [M] / the south / Salamanca [M] / the north: Buses from the Alsa company run this corridor, passing through Cáceres [S]

The old town - looks lovely. New town relaxed and has a great plaza underneath the city wall.
